Sophie Nash

Sophie Nash is a local artist who works primarily with acrylic, watercolour, ink, and pencil. She was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. As a child she dreamed of becoming an animator and has always been fascinated with a wide spectrum of arts, ranging from illustration and animation to fine art by the likes of Salvidor Dali, Rembrandt, and Leonardo Davinci. Her eclecticism continues today as she is always interested in learning new media, techniques, and theory.

As an artist, she feels a deep connection to the environment and communities in Northern Ontario as well as to her maternal Finnish heritage. She seeks to represent this connection in her artwork. She creates her pieces with emotion, often accompanied with little layers of hidden stories or meanings. She believes in the subjectivity of art and the notion that each viewer will have their own, individualized experience engaging with a piece of art and emerge with unique feelings, thoughts, and interpretations of it.

Sophie originally sought to attend post-secondary studies in English Literature and Visual Arts, however, she decided to pursue psychology. She has a B.A. Degree with Honours in Psychology from Algoma University and her M.A. Degree in Applied (clinical) Psychology from Laurentian University. Having finished her studies she now finds herself able to take the time to nurture her love of art and grow as an artist.
