“Art is in her genes!” Hilkka’s family in Finland consists of well-known artists in both the visual and theatre arts.

Hilkka’s accomplishments in 2022 included receiving an Honorable Mention in the Winter Festival of Arts held at the Art Gallery of Algoma for her oil painting entitled ‟By the Ski Trail” and having her acrylic painting entitled ‟March in Hiawatha Park‟ accepted in the 66th NOAA.

Hilkka’s many artistic achievements include receiving numerous awards and honorable mentions in the NOAA, exhibitions at the Art Gallery of Algoma and Alberta House as well as many other exhibitions. Having had nine paintings accepted into NOAA annual juried exhibitions, Hilkka has also received her NOAA letters.

Hilkka’s artistic career began in her native Finland by painting on fine china. After immigrating to Canada and early retirement, she developed a keen interest in oil, acrylic and watercolor painting. Experimenting with other mediums such as acrylic ink on Yupo paper and the use of Rice paper also offered her new challenges and surprises. Landscapes and waterscapes in the Algoma region, figures, pets and flowers drew her interest. Portraits became her specialty. As an award-winning artist many of her works are in private collections in Europe and Brazil.
