On January 16th, 2023 the Algoma Art Society celebrated its' 75th Anniversary

The first event of 2023 was the opening of the Algoma Art Society's 75th Anniversary Art Exhibition that officially opened in the Main Gallery of the Art Gallery of Algoma on Friday, January 6th, 2023 at 7:00 p.m.  

Speakers at the Official Opening were Jasmina Jovanovic, Executive Director/Chief Curator of the Art Gallery of Algoma, Rutger Becker, President of the Algoma Art Society and Mark Lapore, Chairman of the Board at the Art Gallery of Algoma.

This 75th Anniversary Exhibition at the AGA features fifty-three paintings. 

- Twenty-five of the paintings are by current members of the Algoma Art Society.

- Nine paintings and one photograph are by former deceased members of the Algoma Art Society.

- Ten paintings are by former Algoma Art Society members that are now in the Art Gallery of Algoma's permanent collection.

- Eight art works on display were donated to the Art Gallery of Algoma by the Algoma Art Society.

As a special feature at our April meeting Duff Jennings showed examples of her coloured pencil drawings, explained some of her creative process and told members about the brands and types of art materials she prefers to work with.  Duff also demonstrated how she works with the coloured pencils and assisted several members who were trying the process.

Algoma Art Society member Lucia Laford who works in and teaches the Woodland style of art spoke about her love of working on and painting Murals.  She talked about the local murals she has and is currently working on at local schools and all the preparation and work involved as she includes the students and teachers in the planning and work and showed photos of some of her completed murals.

Summer Moon Festival - Sale of 6x6 inch paintings as a fundraiser for ARCH - Saturday, June 17, 2023 from 9 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

A total of 38 paintings were sold at the Summer Moon Festival Tent on the Mill Market grounds.  A total of $760.00 was raised for ARCH.  Algoma Art Society members contributed over 100 6x6" paintings towards this sale.  The remaining unsold paintings will be handed over to ARCH for them to sell.

A number of Algoma Art Society members got together on Saturday, June 24th at Bellevue Park and painted "en plein air", socialized, shared skills and had lunch.  All who attended had a memorable time.
