NOAA History

In 1949 the Algoma Art Society was one of the five founding member clubs when the Northern Ontario Art Association (NOAA) was formed. 1956 saw the beginning of annual juried exhibitions with many well-known artists as jurors such as Gus Weisman, A.Y. Jackson, and A.J. Casson.  The membership grew from five clubs to a current membership of 15 Northern Ontario art clubs.

Each September the NOAA hosts the Annual Juried Exhibition.  This 40 painting exhibition tours to numerous scheduled venues throughout Northern Ontario until the following September when the next NOAA is hosted.  NOAA Touring Exhibitions are displayed annually at various Sault Ste. Marie venues including the Art Gallery of Algoma and L&D Art Gallery and Framing.  As the Algoma Art Society is an NOAA member club, Society members are eligible to enter these annual juried exhibitions.
