Brenda Nelson

BIOGRAPHY

Brenda Nelson was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Throughout her primary and secondary school years, Brenda displayed artistic talent. She collaborated with other art students on multiple pieces including a mural for the Memorial Gardens, the Station mall, St. Mary’s College high school, a small piece for the Plummer Hospital, a poster for the play Scampino and illustrations for a children’s book. Once high school was completed, Brenda began her post-secondary education at Sheridan College in the Art Fundamentals program. After graduation from the program Brenda continued her post-secondary education in other subjects, the most recent diploma was obtained in 2025.

Brenda has changed her signature a few times over the years, from BN, BJN to BJWV as a reflection of life’s changes and her continued growth as an artist, the most recent change is BJW Expressions, it is hoped this will be the last change.

Brenda’s pre-existing appreciation and love for nature as a young girl has continued into adulthood, she finds peace and adventure during her time outdoors which inspires her to share her passion of our vibrant and beautiful world. She has been learning more about her Metis and Indigenous background, as a result she has been incorporating some of her heritage into some of her more recent pieces of art.

Brenda has used acrylic paint most often for her paintings, recently she experimented with metallic acrylic paint. Brenda has also used water colour, oil pastel, chalk pastel and charcoal on occasion but enjoys exploring mixed media to create unique expressive art.

Brenda has been an Artistic vendor at a few Art in the Park and market events throughout the years in Sothern Ontario including Petrolia, Sparta, Strathroy, and Watford. She has also donated paintings to various benefits and charities including the Sault Ste. Marie museum 6 x 6 charity art sale. Brenda is a member of the Art Group of Strathroy-Caradoc, the Algoma Art Society which is a group collaborated with the Northern Ontario Art Association and is also an individual Colleague member of the GOG (Galeries Ontario Galleries).
